Twitter has been rolling out a bunch of features that will make it easier for users to find people and things that they’re interested in. This is great news if you’re a blogger, Internet marketer or small business owner, because these new features will allow you to put your name out there and attract more targeted followers.

Here’s a rundown of the changes happening to Twitter and tips on how you can make the most out of them. Check them out below.

1. Self-serve ads – Promoted tweets and accounts used to be exclusive to select companies with big budgets. Over the last few months though, Twitter has been offering a new self-serve ads platform to small businesses that will allow them to promote their accounts and tweets with just a few clicks.

With Promoted Accounts, Twitter will examine your current followers and search for similar people. When it finds a match, Twitter will recommend you on their “Who to Follow” section. With Promoted Tweets on the other hand, the microblogging platform will automatically promote your most engaging posts to relevant users.

The great thing about Twitter ads for small businesses is that you can set a daily cap on how much you want to spend per day. You can spend as little or as much as you like, and you’ll pay when a user follows you or interacts with your tweets similar to Facebook Ads.

2. The tailored suggestions experiment – Twitter is now experimenting with a new way to recommend accounts to follow. By recognizing which accounts are frequently followed by people who visit popular sites, we can recommend those accounts to others who have visited those sites within the last ten days.”

What does this mean for bloggers and entrepreneurs? Well, Twitter’s tailored suggestions can actually help you attract targeted followers. You stand a very good chance of appearing in Twitter’s “Who to Follow” section if you keep your account lean and targeted. So don’t waste time posting tweets that aren’t related to your field and avoid following random people or buying random followers. Since Twitter will examine your tweets and followers to determine if you should be suggested to particular users, a hodgepodge of posts and people won’t help you get in front of your target audience.

3. Twitter email digests – How would you like to get into your audience’s inbox? With Twitter’s email digests, you might actually get a chance to. A few weeks ago, Twitter started to send out weekly emails to users that summarize the most relevant tweets and stories shared by the people connected to them. Keep an eye out for these digests as they are tailor-fitted for you, and will contain “the most engaging Tweets seen by the people you follow, even if you don’t follow those who wrote them. You can see who from your network retweeted or favorited these Tweets and click “View details” to retweet, favorite, reply or view the conversation around them.”

Similar to tailored suggestions, Twitter’s email digests can potentially put in you in front of more people. If one of your tweets receives a lot of engagement and interactions, you can get a chance to be featured in these email digests. With that said, be sure to keep your tweets interesting and make it a point to post stories that will add value to your followers’ Twitter streams.
