Setting up your email newsletter might be one of those things that you know you should be doing, but just haven’t gotten around to yet because it seems too complicated. Not to worry! This month, we’re going to get you up to speed and simplify the email newsletter process so you can get your content into your peeps’ inboxes pronto.
The very first thing you need to do is select an email marketing service provider. What? You can’t just copy and paste all those email addresses you’ve been collecting into your gmail bcc field? NO! You need to be able to send to individuals, personalize the email to them, and track whether or not they are reading your messages and clicking through the links to your website or social media accounts. After all, you want to know that the time you spend putting this together is paying off!
So, you will need to find an email marketing service. There are so many options, that it might seem hard to choose. Here are some key features to look for:
- Ability to create an opt-in box for your website (where people can sign up for your newsletter).
- Reliable delivery rates and good analytics tracking (for email opens, bounces, unsubscribes, click-throughs, etc).
- Pre-formatted design templates and an easy-to-use system for you to design your newsletter layout.
- Easy to use auto-responder setup, so people who subscribe automatically get a reply message that includes a link to your free download, free report, e-book, video series, etc.
If all this sounds like greek to you, that’s okay! Stick with us and you’ll be a pro in no time.
Many people choose either MailChimp or Aweber when they are starting out with content marketing. Both are excellent options that include the features we mentioned above. Mailchimp is free to use until you have 2,000 subscribers. Aweber starts at about $19/month.
So, now that you know the first step, it’s time to take action! This week, if you don’t already have your email marketing service setup – sign up for an account! Then, circle back here next week, where we’ll give you some ideas on filling your newsletters with quality content.
