When people ask me about my “career path”, it’s always a bit difficult to answer. I started my business when I was 22, so I don’t have much in the way of traditional work history.
I’m considered an expert in my field, yet I don’t have any graduate-level degrees (social media wasn’t exactly a major when I was in school). I’ve scrapped one business to start another, and had a side project that turned into a huge success. Although my work focuses on social media marketing, I’ve taught and consulted on all kinds of topics related to small business.
This can make it kind of hard to give a quick, concise answer to the dreaded “so what do you do?”
My situation isn’t uncommon – the new reality of work can look a lot less like a “career ladder”, and a lot more like a disjointed pile of projects. We switch fields, go back to school, start a business, quit a business, burn the ships and start over.
How do you take this mess and turn it into a cohesive, compelling story that actually gives people a deeper understanding of your work instead of leaving them totally confused?
Don’t ask me, ask Pam Slim! Pam recently came out with a powerful new book that solves this problem – it’s called Body of Work.
And to kick off 2014 right I’ve invited Pam to co-host a free online workshop with me to help you form a cohesive, true-to-you Body of Work for 2014.
This will be fun, interactive and LIVE so make sure to clear some time to drop by, even if you can’t make the whole thing. Just click here to get the specifics and register to attend.
And please help us spread the word! The more the merrier on this one.
