Track Down Your “Fame Friends”

A core component of my Creating Fame strategy is getting press online. But how do you know what kind of websites are looking to feature people like you?

First, you need to find some “Fame Friends”. These are people/businesses who share an audience with you and would therefore be featured in same types of places you would want to be featured in. Start by making a list of the blogs/business sites already on your radar that you think your audience reads as well.

Next go to google alerts and enter the full name of that person or business (you can try out my name to start). Choose to get “everything” delivered once per day, anything more is overwhelming! Then sit back and let the recon work begin! Google alerts will automatically start sending you any new mentions of your Fame Friend on the web. You can use these mentions to compile a list of the sites that cover your Fame Friend – and would likely want to cover you as well!

  1. I am hearing LOTS of talk about Google Alerts. I need to get over there, asap.

I like your style—short and to the point. Awesome!

  2. Excellent advice. What a time-saver! Yet another crazy great use of Google services.

  3. Now that was a great piece of advice. I have only one Google alert. Now I have to make my list a little bigger.

  4. This was an awesome tip, Laura! I’ve heard of google alerts but never knew what it was for – going to set this up now. Thanks!

  5. This is extra of a poll really. I used to be wondering how many people who have internet-cams built-in into their laptop or netbook display, preserve these cams covered up with a sticker or tape? Even if youre aware of what processes are working, do you get a bit paranoid that somebody might be remotely watching?

  6. Hi Laura, I have google alert to track topics that I need to write about, but i never thought of using it to track possible resource persons I can connect with or interview. I just typed in your name in google alerts and in a few secs got a note in my inbox with a link to the latest grandma interview with you in you tube!

  7. When I open up your Feed it appears to be to be a ton of junk, is the issue on my side?

  8. You need to really moderate the responses at this website
