Welcome Your Fans

It sounds simple, but a good old fashioned “thank you” is one of the most effective strategies from the Creating Fame program. The people who “like” your page, retweet your tweets or comment on your blog have taken time out of their day to interact with you, and they LOVE to hear that you appreciate it!So I want you to look through your facebook page’s most recent fans (or your friends if you don’t use a business page) and send at least 5 people a message of genuine thanks. This is not the time to pitch, promote, or ask for anything from them! Here’s a message you can use if you’re not sure what to say: “Hey, I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate you taking the time to “like” my page. Thanks for being here!”

To send the message, first click on someone’s name in the “people who like this” box on the left side of your page. If you aren’t friends with the person, you’ll see a little blue box at the top of their profile with a lock icon. Most people will have a text link in that box that says “send him/her a message”, which you can click even if you aren’t friends on facebook. Most people don’t realize that most of the time (depending on the person’s privacy settings) you don’t need to be friends with someone to message them. So thank away!

  1. While at it, I send the message to 8 persons! Can’t wait to see if they’ll answer or “unlike”! Not that I am afraid, “au contraire”!

    Great post!

  2. Your so right, it’s such a simple task but it means so much. Everyone is always trying to get more and more “likes” rather than spending a few extra minutes of giving to create a solid relationship with those there already.

  3. Thanks Laura! I had no idea you could send a message if you weren’t someone’s friend. I’d been wondering how to connect with the new followers on the FB page and this post was perfectly timed!

  4. Thanks Laura! I had been trying to figure out how to connect with my new fans, but I didn’t know how. This post was very timely & very specific! I do have a question. Most of my new fans have a lock icon, but it is not “blue” and doesn’t have a text link. Some of my fans do have a “send a message” icon to the “right” of their profile information. Is there a setting I have set that is preventing me from the “blue” icon? I did “Share Profile”, but that put the thank you on my wall of my business. I don’t think this is what I want. What am I missing? Did the fans I selected just have privacy settings that prevents me from sending a message?
